This job vacancy announcement will remain open until filled. This is for a 1.0 FTE Assistant Girls Soccer Coach position and will begin with the 2026/27 Soccer season. Job Purpose Statement: The primary purpose of this position is to perform coaching duties, assign team members and assist the Head Soccer Coach as directed. Actively contribute to establishing an environment in which student athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image. Model the promotion of sportsmanship, a winning attitude and commitment to student academic success. This position will coach the JV or Freshman Soccer team. Essential Job Functions: Co-leads practice sessions during the regulated season; duties to include setting seasonal goals and objectives in coordianation with the Head Coach. Work cooperatively with parents, other coaches, staff, and support programs. Assists the Head Coach and the Athletic Director in maintaining the care for athletic facilities and aid in preparation of the facilities for athletic competition. May assist the Head Coach and the Athletic Director in purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms for girls soccer. Participates in the pre-season meeting with all athletes and parents, outlining schedules, student athletic contracts, and Student Athletic Handbook. Works to improve skills and knowledge of each athlete and the team as a whole. In coordination with the Head Coach, helps organize team members according to competitive levels. Enforces appropriate team rules and team discipline. Follows guidelines and principles of sportsmanship. Adheres to requirements of athletic eligibility. Adheres to District Athletic Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures of league and OSAA rules. Works harmoniously with other coaches, community volunteers, parents, and school personnel. Communicates effectively, both orally and written, with other coaches, students, parents, officials, and staff. Submits rosters, helps maintain equipment and uniform inventories and other reports as required. Assists with coordination of end of year awards, communications, and events. In suport of the Head Coach, helps monitor expenditures in relation to budget and monitors proper use, care, and return of uniforms and other assigned equipment. Supervises and arranges for proper supervision of student/athletes during practices, matches, travel, and related activities. Helps with media communications for Girls Soccer at Hood River Valley High School. Consults with the Head Coach, Athletic Director and Administration concerning playing conditions, safety concerns, program improvements, player performance, outside complaints, and other related matters. Maintains regular and predictable attendance to meet the needs of the program and the terms of the contract. Responsible for immediately reporting to Law Enforcement or Department of Human Services any instance of suspected child abuse according to (ORS 419B.010). Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Skills possessed will exemplify a moral character that is consistent with being a positive role model for all students. Knowledge of soccer at the high school level, including any recent rule changes. Knowledge of how to effectively communicate effectively with athletes and parents. Ability to work harmoniously with others. To organize and manage students time effectively. To use problem solving strategies consistently. Adjusts to performing practices in a variety of locations. Ability to motivate students. Ability to teach soccer skills and fundamentals. Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. College degree Preferred. Experience Required: Previous experience coaching soccer preferred. Licenses, Certifications or Bonding Required: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification or ASEP Certifications; Concussion training, Heat Illness Prevention, Performance enhancing Drugs & Substances Training, First Aid/CPR Certification, valid driver's license. Required testing: Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of: Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana , mind-altering substances or narcotic drugs such as hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbiturates, or any other illegal drug or controlled substance, except those federally recognized as legally prescribed by a physician and used as directed. Post-offer physical abilities assessment. Nationwide criminal history verification - a background check for any convictions directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Fingerprint-based nation-wide background clearance. The pay range listed below is for the 2025/26 coaching season. The salary schedule is being negotiated this spring. The contract issued for 2026/27 will be no less than the range listed below, and will be based on verified prior paid coaching experience in the same sport at the same responsibility level.
