Pay Information $2,306 per week About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Peri-Anesthesia Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Recent experience in PACU or ICU required; recent acute care hospital experience within the past 5 years required License: Oregon RN license required (must be obtained) Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS (must be obtained) Must-Have: PACU or ICU experience, recent acute care hospital experience Description: Functions as a team member in all phases of perianesthesia care including Pre-Op, PACU Phase 1, and PACU Phase II. Applies the nursing process to the care of patients within the RN scope of practice as defined by the state nursing board. Teaches patients and significant others. Documents patient care in the medical record. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to effectively coordinate overall patient care in the peri-anesthesia departments. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Assists physician with endoscopic examinations and performs gastric manometer testing. Coordinates the interdisciplinary team to ensure patient readiness for surgery. Comprehensively reviews and assesses patient status related to planned surgery, including physical parameters, lab values, medications, pre-, intra-, and post-op learning needs and understanding of the procedure. Consults with the surgeon, anesthesia, and other providers as needed to resolve identified patient issues in a timely manner. Prevents avoidable surgery cancellations. Begins interdisciplinary discharge planning process, including patient and caregivers in planning. Performs EKGs as ordered. Manages care of patients, including pain control during anesthesia recovery. Manages patients undergoing moderate sedation, including medication administration, monitoring, and routine and emergency airway management. Identifies and interprets cardiac rhythms; proficient in the use of cardio-respiratory monitoring equipment. Assesses patients as appropriate to the scope of care the nurse will provide. Assesses may include physical, psychosocial, learning needs and barriers, and needs related to age and culture. Establishes nursing diagnoses based on results of assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Plans care according to identified diagnoses and needs. Updates plan of care as appropriate. Implements and performs individualized care based on the nursing care plan and the nurse’s role with the patient. Provides assistance with activities of daily living, including fall risk management and safe patient handling. Administers medications and manages skin assessments and wound care. Implements pain management strategies. Operates and manipulates biomedical and other patient care and testing equipment, including infusion pumps, patient transfer equipment, cardiopulmonary monitors, and invasive catheters and drains. Assists the physician and other licensed independent practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures. Educates patients and their families about current illness, medical tests, medication, general healthcare, illness and disease prevention, and wellness promotion. Provides appropriate assignment, supervision, and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel to ensure optimum patient care. Facilitates interdisciplinary coordination of overall care. Documents patient assessments, interventions, care, and teaching in the electronic medical record. Ensures documentation is complete, concise, timely, and legible.
